Dubai: An Indian woman has lost Dh90,000 to thieves who broke into her parked car where the money, which was meant to pay for her daughter's college education, was kept.

The car's window was smashed.

The victim M.D., who works as a secretary in a private company, withdrew the money on March 18 from a bank in Jebel Ali.

She then drove to her office in Jebel Ali Free Zone and parked her car for around 10 minutes to talk to a colleague. She had left the envelope with the money on the passenger front seat and locked the car.

When she went back, she discovered that the window has been smashed and the envelope was gone.

She immediately reported the incident to Jebel Ali Police Station.

"I had to take an advance from my company against my dues and benefits to send my daughter to Australia. I cannot jeopardise my job at this stage and I am completely helpless in this situation," she said.

Police are still investigating the case.

Authorities however, reminded the public to take the necessary precautions in safeguarding their valuables especially in unattended cars.

"More than once we have urged the public not to leave any valuables in their cars such as cash, laptops, and mobile phones. In most robbery cases, the victims are failing to adhere to basic safety regulations. Once again never leave any valuables in your parked cars even if it's for a few minutes," said Lieutenant Colonel Ahmad Humaid Al Merri, Director of the Criminal Investigations Division, Dubai Police.
