Abu Dhabi: A young Lebanese man on Friday saved the life of a drowning Indian driver whose vehicle had fallen into the sea at Abu Dhabi Free Port.
Rabie Al Boubu, 33, did not think twice before jumping into the water to save the drowning man.
The incident took place at 7:35pm near the main street adjacent to the port.
The Abu Dhabi police operations received a report about the incident and quickly dispatched medical and technical teams, followed by an ambulance.
Afterwards, Al Boubu criticised bystanders who crowded around simply to watch and take photographs without lending assistance to the rescue operation.
He said the crowd of onlookers had delayed the arrival of the ambulance that was sent to the scene.
Colonel Othman Yousuf Al Tamami, Director of the Emergency and Public Safety Department, encouraged the public to assist in protecting the safety of other people and their belongings.
Provided they did not place their own lives in danger, he said it would be appreciated if they could assist others before the arrival of rescue workers at the scene of an accident.
He also called on the public not to crowd the scene of an accident as this tends to undermine the work of rescue teams and prevent them from carrying out their jobs in an effective manner.
