Sharjah: The mother of two, who died in a fall from the 12th floor of a building in Sharjah on Thursday, had committed suicide because she lost her job in Dubai and was facing financial ruin, said friends of the victim.

The Indian mother jumped to her death after she received her termination letter from her boss.

A friend of the victim told Gulf News that the mother lost her job and was unable to cope with the financial burden she was facing.

"Her husband is ill and she is the only breadwinner who used to support her family," the friend said.

Police said the mother fell from the balcony of her sister's apartment in Al Musalla area in Sharjah on Thursday. "The family have loans, car loan and children who go to school," the friend said.

The friend said that the victim's husband was sick and she took him back home to Kerala in India a few days before she died.

Friends who live in the same building said that at around 5pm on Thursday they heard somebody crying loudly.

"We heard her screaming while she was falling down. At the beginning we did not know what was going on," the friend said, adding that they soon saw police near the building.

"Her teenage son and daughter both go to school back home [in Kerala]," the friend said.

"She was staying in her sister's apartment in Sharjah after she lost her job," the friend added.

Police said the woman was alone at her sister's apartment when the incident happened.

The woman had returned alone on Wednesday after taking the family back to India on Monday, police said.
