Dubai: A Bangladeshi waiter ended up with a severe head injury when the woman he tried to molest defended herself with a rock. The accused pleaded guilty to the crime.
Prosecutors accused 27-year-old M.Y. of sexually molesting the 28-year-old Filipina secretary by trying to hug and touch her in a dark alley in Al Wasl.
“Yes, I am guilty. I tried to molest her,” the defendant said as he entered a guilty plea before the Dubai Court of First Instance.
Prosecution records show that the woman, M.G., grabbed the rock and threw it in M.Y.’s face.
“I walked out of a grocery store around 3am when he grabbed me from behind, covered my mouth and pulled me into a dark alley. He tried to molest me ... I told him I would submit to him, but instead grabbed a rock and hurled it at his head.” the victim told prosecutors.
When questioned by Presiding Judge Maher Salama Al Mahdi, the accused admitted that the victim attacked him with a rock. “Yes sir, but she has dropped her complaint against me,” he said.
In her testimony, the victim said: “He first groped my chest, but I stopped him when he tried to slide his hand under my clothes. I told him ‘no need to turn violent and I will do what you want’. I agreed to go with him to his room, but as soon as he freed me, I hit him with the rock and ran away.”
The victim said she waited two months to report the matter to the police because she had a residency issue. “When I spotted him in the same area recently, I called the police,” M.G. claimed.
An Emirati policeman said the defendant admitted to him that he molested the Filipina.
A verdict will be heard on November 14.
