Dubai: Dubai Police are strengthening their efforts to eliminate the problem of minors carrying blades and sharp objects with three youngsters being arrested recently for carrying sharp knives and razors.

The criminal investigation department of Dubai Police, in coordination with police stations, is running a campaign to raise awareness and to combat the problem, Dubai Police said in a press statement.

On March 9, as a result of the campaign, three Arab teenagers were arrested for possessing knives and razors, said Brigadier Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri, Director of the Criminal Investigation Department of Dubai Police.

Earlier, Major General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina, Deputy Commander of Dubai Police, called on police officers to tighten their monitoring procedures and arrest any person, especially youngsters, who are seen carrying sharp objects, following the gruesome killing of a 13-year-old boy Ali Mohammad Hassan by a gang of teenagers.

Undertaking

If any person under the legal age is found with sharp objects like knives and blades they will be forced to sign an undertaking as well as their parents pledging the minor will not carry such objects again, he said.

In case the incident is repeated, the minor will be referred to court, he said while adding that such behaviour must be curbed.

Ali was a victim of a fatal attack by a group of teenagers who wanted to settle scores with his elder brother as had earlier sparked a heated argument by throwing sarcastic remarks at one of the teenagers. Ali was stabbed 11 times before he succumbed to his injuries last Thursday night. Five teenagers aged 15-17 years old were arrested for their involvement in the crime.
