Ras Al Khaimah: The Misdemeanor Court handed a minor accused of theft to his father on Tuesday.

A senior court official said that criminal law cannot be applied on a 12-year-old boy who has earlier been accused of stealing money from a car parked on the street where he lived.

The neighbours reported the case to the police who caught him beside the car with the money in his hand. The boy was referred to the Public Prosecution, which pressed charges against him and referred him to the court who handed him over to his father.

The official added that the court acquitted him from several charges of stealing small amounts of cash and a mobile phone due to lack of evidence.

Meanwhile, the court sentenced an Egyptian national to 22 months in jail for issuing dud cheques.

The official said that the suspect has bought construction materials from companies and issued them cheques, but no credit was in his bank account.

The company lodged a complaint with the police who arrested him and referred him to the Public Prosecution, which in turn referred him to court.
