Abu Dhabi: Lieutenant General Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Interior, has honoured eight police officers for their outstanding efforts and dedication.
Captain Ali Saif Ghadir Al Aryani of the Abu Dhabi Police was decorated with the medal of bravery, and seven police officers were decorated with the silver jubilee medal for completing 25 years of service.
The officers were awarded the medal in accordance with decree No.1 for 2007, issued by President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan. As he decorated the officer, Shaikh Saif said the medal was a well-deserved honour to a brave officer who has set the best example of commitment to duty.
"Our country is blessed with security and stability. We owe this stability to the vigilance and dedication of our of men and women in uniform," Shaikh Saif said.
He said the heroism showed by Al Aryani reflects the patriotism of the UAE police personnel. Captain Al Aryani was on leave when he coincidentally came across a group of policemen who were exchanging fire with wanted suspects. He joined the fray to help his colleagues.
As he chased one of the suspects, Al Aryani was shot in the leg but continued to chase the suspect until he finally arrested him. "Al Aryani endangered his own life for the sake of his country. By honouring him today, we honour every patriot who is prepared to sacrifice his or her life for the country," said Shaikh Saif.
