Dubai:  A merchant from Comoro Islands has been charged with possessing 0.69 grams of drugs which he tried to sell to a police informant for Dh500.

Prosecutors accused the 32-year-old merchant, A.J., with possessing 0.69 grams of heroin, venoparpital and diazipam for trafficking purposes.

The accused was absent at the hearing held at the Dubai Court of First Instance on Tuesday.

An Emirati anti-narcotics first lieutenant testified that following a tip-off "we appointed the informant to strike the drug sale in a petrol station in Zabeel area … as part of a sting operation, the informant posed as a buyer and bought the drugs for Dh500. As soon as the deal was sealed, an anti-narcotics team raided the place and arrested the suspect."
