Manager jailed for threatening to kill ex-wife
Dubai court found the 33-year old guilty of threatening to kill his wife and defaming her while visiting their daughter
Dubai: A British manager has been jailed three months for threatening to kill his ex-wife if she did not waive ownership of her London-based property, ruled a court on Wednesday.
The Dubai Court of First Instance found the 33-year-old Briton, D.F., guilty of threatening to kill his wife and defaming her while visiting their daughter, who stays with her mother at Dubai Women and Children Foundation.
Presiding Judge Fahmi Mounir, who pronounced yesterday's judgment, also ordered the accused to pay Dh10,000 in temporary compensation to his ex-wife. He has also been ordered to pay the fees for the ex-wife's civil lawsuit against him.
"I am not guilty… not guilty," D.F. said repeatedly when he defended himself in court.
Prosecutors accused the manager of cursing and verbally threatening to kill his 24-year-old British ex-wife.
He was charged with threatening her by saying that he will hire men to kill her in case she did not waive her ownership of the house in Britain. D.F. was additionally charged with calling his former wife bad names.
The ex-wife claimed to prosecutors: "The incident happened when he visited us at the Foundation. A Sharia court had allowed him to visit his daughter twice a week for two hours. During his visit, he said that he will hire people to kill me in case I didn't waive the ownership. He also dishonoured and cursed me."
An Emirati social worker at the Foundation, told prosecutors that the accused threatened his wife and also accused her of being a disbeliever. The primary judgment is still subject to appeal within 15 days.
