Dubai: A manager faces a three-year imprisonment after a court convicted him of attempting to murder his ex-girlfriend by running his car over her.

The Dubai Court of First Instance sentenced in absentia the 43-year-old French manager, A.E., for three years for trying to kill his Norwegian girlfriend, L.C.

Presiding Judge Hamad Abdul Latif Abdul Jawad said the accused will be deported after serving his punishment.

Prosecutors said accused caused 100 per cent permanent disability in the 35-year-old woman, L.C.'s, leg.

Records said the accused mowed down the woman in a parking lot shortly after she asked him to choose between her or his wife.

In an earlier hearing, Gulf News spotted L.C. using walkers to approach the bench and asked the judge to expedite the issuance of the ruling so that she could lodge civil lawsuit against A.E.

Medical records said L.C. sustained 100 per cent permanent disability in her legs after the tires went over her thighs and knees.

According to the arraignment sheet, A.E. attempted to murder his ex-girlfriend when he threw her out of the passenger's seat then reversed his car exactly where she landed wanting to kill her. He mowed her down, drove off and left her behind injured.

Prosecution records said the Norwegian woman escaped A.E.'s second attempt to drive over her body before she called the police and rescue teams. Swift medical intervention helped save the life of the woman.

L.C. testified that she was in love with the Frenchman and knew that he was married.

"When we first started dating he claimed that he intended to divorce his wife. Later I realized that he wanted to stay with his wife. I asked him to choose between us. I agreed to see him over dinner after several attempts. We discussed the future of our relationship when we indulged in a heated argument. Around midnight he insisted to drive me home. We had another heated argument.

"He realized that I broke up with him as soon as I said he is the loser and not me. Suddenly he opened the car door and threw me out. I fell on my right shoulder and got injured… he turned back to his seat and drove the car backwards over my leg. When he took off, I escaped his second attempt to mow me. He sped off," L.C. claimed to prosecutors.

L.C. reported the police and called an ambulance.

She said she phoned the suspect, who answered the call but didn't speak. Then he hung up and switched off his phone.

Prosecution records said the woman suffered socially, emotionally and physically, the thing which forensic doctors estimated as a 100 percent permanent disability.

Thursday's judgment remains subject to appeal within 15 days.
