Fujairah: A 32-year-old man was jailed for one month and fined Dh100 after losing his appeal against a lower court conviction for causing physical injuries to a woman.

The Fujairah Appeal Court, however, also upheld a not-guilty verdict in favour of Emirati, N.A., relating to a second charge of stealing Dh200 and other items from the victim.

The case started when Fujairah police received a call from an Emirati female claiming she was beaten-up by the suspect.

After he was arrested, N.A. denied the woman's claims arguing he was, in fact, just defending himself against her.

N.A. said he only confronted the woman, accusing her of sending men to assault him.

The woman was given a medical examination in hospital, which revealed a bruise on the lower lip.

Police investigation revealed both the attacker and the victim were known to each other and had previous disagreements.

N.A. was charged with causing physical injuries through assault and stealing Dh200 and medical and bank cards.

He was found guilty on the first charge and not guilty on the second by Fujairah's Criminal Court, but he lodged an appeal which was rejected by the Appeal Court.
