Sharjah: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in the Eastern Region on Tuesday arrested an Arab national for allegedly using stolen credit cards.

Police identified the 24-year-old man as T.R.A.

A senior official at Sharjah Police told Gulf News that police were tipped off after they received a complaint about a resident who was using stolen cards to purchase items over the internet.

After verifying the information and setting up a team to investigate the accusations, the CID was able to apprehend the suspect while he was receiving laptops from a delivery company. According to the official, the suspect used the stolen credit cards to buy a number of laptops.

In a separate incident, police were also able to recently arrest three Afghans who allegedly stabbed an Indian employee at a money exchange in Al Rolla area in Sharjah. They threw chilly powder in his eyes and tried to steal a bag containing Dh300,000.

According to the police report, the incident took place last week and the suspects have confessed.

Police were able to identify the first suspect, who was hiding in Dubai. During interrogation he led the police to the other two.

The incident took place as the victim was about to enter a vehicle. He was stabbed on his arm and back. However, the suspects were unable to steal the bag and had to run away empty-handed.
