Man gets three-year jail term for attempted rape
Expatriate tried to rape a nine-year-old Emirati girl, says official
Ras Al Khaimah: The RAK Criminal Court sentenced a Bangladeshi national to three years imprisonment for attempted rape, on Tuesday. The suspect will be deported from the UAE after he has served his prison term.
A senior court official said that the suspect attempted to rape a nine-year-old Emirati girl. She managed to escape and told her father who reported the case to the police straight away.
The suspect fled the scene when the father was informed. The emirate’s Police caught him within a few hours and he confessed that he attacked the girl in order to rape her.
The victim previously recounted the incident to a panel of judges in the Criminal Court, which the suspect never denied.
Meanwhile, RAK Public Prosecution pressed charges against two Iranian nationals, indicting them with impersonating police officers and with kidnapping and raping two Filipinas.
A senior official at the department said that the case has been referred to the Criminal Court, for a verdict to be passed.
The official said that there were four suspects in the cases, but the Public Prosecution suspended two, while the other two were charged.
The two victims (nurses working for a government hospital) were taking a taxi home after finishing their evening shift at around midnight on the night in question.
Stopping the taxi, the suspects - impersonating Police officers - forced the two victims to get out of the vehicle. The suspects then demanded that the two women present IDs, accusing them of being illegal immigrants.
The suspects then made the taxi driver to leave the scene, and forced the victims to get into their car. They then drove them to a remote area in the northern part of Ras Al Khaimah.
After the victims were raped several times by the suspects, they were then abandoned in the remote area.
The victims managed to reach the city of Ras Al Khaimah, where they went to Police, lodged a complaint against the suspects and provided full descriptions.
A search mission was initiated and the suspects were arrested.
The victims later identified their rapists, who are waiting to be sentenced.
