Police investigate death of man found in Sharjah car parking lot
Sharjah: Police are investigating the death of a Pakistani man who was found in a car park in Al Nahda.
His roommates allege he plunged to his death from the balcony of their apartment located on the 12th floor of the 15-floor apartment building. Sharjah police who were on the scene refused to comment.
Witnesses said they saw three women being taken away by the police. One alleged she was forced into prostitution by the dead man and they were not being paid for their "services."
The same woman also claimed the man jumped from the balcony after she threatened to approach the police if her passport was not handed back to her.
The man, who was known as Wasim, was found lying in a pool of blood in the car park behind the Al Sheiba building on Thursday morning. According to witnesses he was in his early thirties.
"It was about 2am. I was in the car park and was taking a turn to enter the building. I saw a man lying on the pavement. From a distance it looked as if he was sleeping but on closer examination I found him motionless. His mouth was oozing blood," a witness said.
Another said: "The flat did not belong to the Pakistani occupants. It was being sublet to them. There were instances when I came across a couple of those women in the lift. I never thought they were into illegal activities."
Murders and suicides
Sharjah has been the scene of suicide-murders over the past year. A Palestinian doctor, diagnosed with cancer, jumped to his death from his flat near the Buhaira Corniche on October 23.
An Indian expatriate killed his wife and baby girl by strangling and suffocating them and jumped from the balcony of his flat on October 30.
A murder-suicide was committed by an Indian late last year. He slit the throats of his wife and his four children, including a 18-month baby, as they slept. He too killed himself.
