Dubai An employee denied kidnapping and attempting to rape a woman and claimed in court Tuesday that prosecutors have accused him of committing the crime without any legal grounds.

Prosecutors charged the 26-year-old Emirati employee, A.J., of abducting the 40-year-old Filipina and locking her in a flat where he intended to rape her.

The woman, C.K., however, managed to sneak out of the flat when A.J. opened the door to let his friend in.

"No, I have nothing to do with those accusations. Prosecutors brought the accusations against me groundlessly. I have nothing to do with what happened," argued A.J. when he defended himself before the Dubai Court of First Instance.

According to the charge sheet, the suspect was said to have pushed C.K. out of the lift of a furnished apartments building and dragged her by force to his flat. When he knocked on the door, someone opened it and he pushed the woman into the main hall.

Prosecution records said A.J. did not listen to the Filipina when she begged him not to hurt her. He was accused of kidnapping, attempted rape and consuming liquor.

A.J.'s lawyer presented a written defence to the presiding judge and asked for her client's acquittal. "I ask the court to acquit my client or to hear the statements of C.K. and the Moroccan woman who rented the flat where the incident happened," argued the lawyer.

The Filipina testified that she was visiting her friend who lived in the same building in Al Qusais when the incident happened.

An Emirati lieutenant testified that the Filipina reported the incident after a week.

The court reconvenes on May 27.
