Sharjah: Sharjah Police have arrested a man accused of stealing jewellery from people after telling them he had supernatural powers.

The police received a number of complaints from people saying a man had deceived them and stolen their jewellery.

The Criminal Investigation Department managed to identify the suspect and arrested him at Sharjah International Airport while he was trying to flee the country. The suspect told police he searched out people who appeared troubled and told them he could solve any personal problem. He then went to the victim’s house and said an evil force was present.

The suspect asked his victims to bring their jewellery to him so he could purify it and cleanse the house. He then asked the victim to donate some money to charity.

The suspect took the jewellery and fled while the victims were on their way to donate the money.

A police investigation revealed that the suspect, identified as Tarazan. A.A, 48, an Arab national, had a history of conning people.

The suspect sold his jewellery haul to a gold shop owner for Dh136,000.

Sharjah Police urged the public not to believe these types of claims and to report such people to them.

“People should never believe the claims of such people whose main target in life is to fool others and take their money,” Sharjah Police warned.
