Man accused of leaking company information
Police are investigating a complaint against the former employee of a leading department store chain
Dubai: Police are investigating a complaint against the former employee of a leading department store chain who has been accused of leaking confidential information and client lists to competitors which caused the company huge losses.
The case, currently under investigation by Dubai Police's Criminal Investigation Department, was filed in December against R.K.J, an Indian national, who used to work for the Indian-owned department store chain before resigning in August and joining a competitor.
In its complaint against R.K.J., the company management alleged that once the suspect was relieved from his post upon his request and joined a competitor, it was found that some of their suppliers began cancelling contracts and signing contracts with R.K.J.'s new employer instead. This led R.K.J.'s former employer to lodge a complaint at the Rifa'a police station.
A source close to the investigation told Gulf News that the estimated loss to the company resulting from the suspect's alleged action was Dh18 million.
The former employer also claimed that R.K.J. was contacting his former colleagues in an attempt to convince them to quit and join him at the new company.
Upon receiving the complaint, a police team went to the new company's premises and arrested the suspect and seized his personal computer for inspection.
The suspect denied all charges and was released on bail. His computer has been sent to the forensic evidence laboratory.
