Maid jailed for dumping newborn

Dubai: A Filipina housemaid will spend three years in jail for attempting to get rid of her illegitimate newborn by dumping the baby in a garbage container, confirmed a court yesterday.

The Dubai Court of Appeal confirmed the initial verdict and found M.K., guilty of attempting to murder her newborn girl whom she put inside a plastic bag before dumping her. She will be deported after serving her term.

M.K. pleaded innocent and said she thought her baby-girl was stillborn after she delivered her in the toilet of a driving institute.

"My client didn't intend to kill her newborn. She thought she delivered a dead baby in the toilet of a driving school, where she was waiting for a driving test.
