Dubai: A housemaid has admitted in court that she stole 600 euros (Dh2,790) from her sponsor.
Prosecutors accused the 25-year-old Filipina of stealing money from her Belgian sponsor at her Emirates Hills house.
"Yes I am guilty… I took the money from her wallet," said 25-year-old G.T. when she pleaded guilty before the Dubai Court of First Instance.
The defendant asked Presiding Judge Al Saeed Mohammad Barghout for a swift ruling.
The 35-year-old sponsor said during prosecution questioning that she reported the matter to the police as soon as her maid admitted she had taken the money.
"It was around 11am when I discovered that my money was missing from my wallet. When I first asked G.T. about the money, she denied taking it… later when I asked her a second time, she claimed that she took the money. She admitted she had wired 450 euros to her family in the Philippines and gave me back the balance," she said in her statement.
A verdict will be given next week.
