Kissing case woman turns herself in
Court convicted her for kissing a man in a public restaurant
Dubai: A British woman has turned herself in to serve a month-long jail term after a court convicted her of kissing her compatriot man in a public restaurant, sources told Gulf News on Thursday.
The 25-year-old woman, a visitor, turned herself in sometime last week, a source from the Dubai Public Prosecution's Criminal Rulings' Execution Section confirmed.
Last month, the Dubai Appeals Court upheld the primary judgment — a month in jail followed by deportation — against the woman and the 24-year-old man, a marketing executive. They were convicted of public indecency and kissing and cuddling in public. The two were also fined Dh1,000 each for drinking alcohol.
The man's lawyer, Hamad Al Howsan, told Gulf News: "Our client is considering an appeal before the Cassation Court… most likely he would go for the appeal."
Presiding Judge Aysar Fouad confirmed the primary judgment against the pair.
When the duo appeared in court last month, they pleaded not guilty and denied kissing in public, claiming "it was a peck on the cheek". They admitted drinking alcohol.
The source from Criminal Rulings' Execution Section told Gulf News: "The 25-year-old convict decided to turn herself in more than 10 days ago… since then she produced herself to the Public Prosecution but was asked to wait for 10 days due to administrative procedures, which delayed the process of executing the verdict."
The woman had earlier pointed to her cheeks in court, indicating that she and her compatriot had kissed on the cheeks and not on the lips in the restaurant in Jumeirah Beach Residence.
