Abu Dhabi: Nearly 385 visa violators have been apprehended across the country, the Ministry of Interior announced in a statement sent on Saturday.

The violators discovered during inspection campaigns conducted last week included 125 illegal immigrants living in the capital city, 100 in Al Ain, 81 in Sharjah and 79 in Fujairah.

The inspections were launched following the two-month amnesty period offered to illegal immigrants that ended in February.

During the raids conducted in Abu Dhabi’s Mussafah and Tourist Club areas, 79 male and 46 female visa violators were found, the ministry’s statement said.

In Al Ain, the inspections focused on industrial zones and market areas, as well as Hili, Hayer, Jimi, Al Wagan and Alfoa areas where 87 men and 13 women were found to be violating the UAE’s residency laws, and were transferred to the courts for further action.

Colonel Ali Ebrahim Tenaiji, director of violators and foreigners at the ministry, said that the regular inspections aim to reduce visa violations across the country. He also urged residents to report illegal immigrants as they pose a threat to security and safety.
