Abu Dhabi: An Indian doctor at Ahalia Hospital in Abu Dhabi was found dead on Thursday, lying in a pool of blood.

Dr Rajan Daniel, a urologist at the hospital located along Hamdan Street, was found dead in his room, a hospital spokesman told Gulf News.

The spokesman said it is believed that Dr Daniel, who was on duty at the time, was murdered as hospital staff heard loud cries emanating from his room around 6.30pm.

“A South Asian man in his forties was seen running away from the doctor’s room. He was caught by hospital staff and handed over to the police who arrived at the scene [shortly afterwards],” the spokesman said.

However, the doctor was already dead, having likely succumbed to his injuries seen around his neck, the spokesman said.

While the nature of the relationship between the deceased and the suspect was yet to be established, the hospital spokesperson said: “The suspected murderer entered the room disguised as a patient. No one else other than the doctor was in the room.”

Police cordoned off the hospital as large number of people gathered in front of the hospital as the news came out.
