Illegal car race driver jailed
An Al Ain court sent a young Emirati to jail for three months after finding him guilty of a car race that led to the death of another Emirati.
Al Ain: An Al Ain court sent a young Emirati to jail for three months after finding him guilty of a car race that led to the death of another Emirati.
The court also imposed a Dh10,000 fine in addition to Dh200,000 blood money.
The 25-year-old Emirati had reportedly fled following the accident but the police arrested him with the help of witnesses. An Al Ain Traffic Police official said the accident had occurred in the Al Jimi district.
The car of S.A.M, the 26-year-old deceased, overturned due to excessive speed on April 17 at around 9pm. The car was badly damaged, causing multiple injuries to the driver. He later died of his injuries. The accused, who was driving a sports car, fled the scene.
Lieutenant Colonel Khalifa Mohammad Al Khaili, Head of Al Ain Traffic Police, said the cause of the accident was racing.
