Dubai: A housemaid has confessed that she stole her employer's mobile SIM card and used to it to make international calls, heard a court on Thursday.

Prosecutors accused the 35-year-old Filipina housemaid of stealing her employer's SIM card and making international calls without his permission.

When the accused R.V. appeared before the Dubai Court of First Instance she pleaded guilty. "I stole the SIM card and used it to make phone calls … I am guilty your honour," R.V. said, as she stood before Presiding Judge Mohammad Majid Bal-Abed in the courtroom.

According to the arraignment sheet, prosecutors charged the housemaid with stealing the SIM card and abusing Etisalat services.

The employer testified that Etisalat asked him over the phone to settle his bill. "When I checked the [Etisalat] bill, I realised that most of the phone calls were made from the Philippines … no calls were dialled from the UAE. There was a phone call from my SIM card to the housemaid's mobile number," claimed the employer in his prosecution statement.

When the Filipina, who is currently detained, haspleaded guilty and asked for leniency.

A judgment will be heard on May 27.
