Ajman: The family of a man who has been missing for more than two months is urging police to step up efforts to look for him.
The 34-year-old Pakistani man, identified as Safeer Ahmad Mohammad Miskeen, left his room in industrial area 1 to go out for dinner with a friend at 10pm on April 24 and has not been seen since.
“He has been missing for more than two months but police are not looking for him even although we reported him missing,” said his uncle, Mohammad Shabbir.
Shabbir told Gulf News his nephew went missing on April 24. He said he has searched for him at every hospital and police station in the country but cannot find any trace of him.
Miskeen is married and the father of a six-year-old daughter and a son who is almost three, who live in Pakistan. Shabbir added that his nephew had been depressed because he had not been paid for three months.
“The company paid one month’s salary after he went missing,” he said.
He said the company checked with the bank and his salary is still there untouched. He said he had contacted all of Miskeen’s friends, both here and in Pakistan.
“I contacted my family back home and I contacted his friends back home and in the UAE but no one has seen him,” he said.
“I called my nephew’s wife back home in Haripur in Pakistan who is very worried because she has not heard from him in a long time,” he said.
He said his nephew, who shared his room with another worker, had left all his belongings in his room.
Shabbir said Miskeen has been living here since 2004 and that he does not have any issues with anyone and does not drink alcohol.
“The company contacted me a few days after he disappeared asking about his whereabouts and if he had come to me,” he said.
He said that 15 days after Miskeen went missing the company where he works filed a missing report against him.
“I was really worried and I called my nephew’s mobile which was switched off and until now his mobile phone has been switched off,” he said.
“I went to the police station several times to get an update about my nephew and each and every time the police say that they will call me back but no one has called me yet,” he said.
Shabbir urged the police to put more effort into finding his nephew.
“The police are not really searching for him,” he said.
Brigadier Ali Abdullah Alwan, Chief of Ajman Police, told Gulf News that Miskeen’s family reported him as missing to Al Nuamiya police station a day after he went missing.
“He may have gone anywhere and we usually do not search for missing persons,” he said.
He added if his family or the company suspected foul play and reported that they thought he may have been murdered, kidnapped or was in danger, the police would search for him.
“The man may be hiding somewhere. Police usually wait until the missing person reappears himself or someone finds him,” he said.
