Sharjah: Police on Tuesday arrested a three-member gang who call themselves "Polo". The gang is suspected of assaulting a number of people in the city and stealing their possessions.

The suspects are identified as A.M.A, 25, who does not have any identification documents, A.K.A, 20, from Oman, and S.G.S., a 26-year-old Emirati.

An official at Sharjah Police said the gang posed as police officers and lured pedestrians to a secluded area before robbing them.

"We received a large number of complaints from victims who were beaten up and had their mobile phones stolen, while two of the victims also reported that they were robbed at knife point," said the police official. He added that the victims did not ask to see any identification.

During investigations, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) identified one of the suspects. After completing all the necessary procedures, the suspect's home was raided. He confessed and mentioned the two accomplices who were also arrested.

The public is urged to ask for identification when they are stopped by the police.
