Gang arrested for using forged credit cards in malls
Turkish trio attempted to buy electronic goods which they planned to ship to their country and sell them there.
Dubai: A Turkish gang of three has been arrested for using forged credit cards to buy valuables from stores in shopping malls.
On February 12, Dubai Police's Operations Department received a report from a store in a mall that some people are using forged credit cards at their outlet.
A Turkish suspect, identified as B.K., was arrested after the store's employee told police three people came to the store, bought electronic items and paid by credit cards. Two compatriots of the arrested managed to escape.
The employee said he doubted the authenticity of the credit cards they gave him and called the bank, which told him that the cards were forged.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) continued the search for the other two suspects. At 11pm the same day, the second suspect, identified as S.S., was arrested at a hotel in Naif.
The police found 21 forged cards in his possession. After searching the room, they found 16 more cards and a number of electronic items and mobile phones.
The CID team arrested the third suspect, identified as A.Z., from a parking lot where he was hiding.
They found 12 laptops after searching the car used by the gang.
During interrogation, the suspects admitted that S.S. was the mastermind behind the crimes and that he had brought the forged credit cards. He agreed with the others to use the cards to buy electronic goods, ship them to their country where they would sell the goods and share the profit.
The three suspects were detained and referred to the Public Prosecution with the seized items.
