Fujairah: Police on Monday began an investigation into the death of a 40-year-old Emirati woman due to a blow from an axe to her head by her son.

Colonel Humaid Mohammad Al Yamahi, Director-General of the Police Operation Room at Fujairah, said the victim’s 17-year-old Emirati son, A.M.M., was the prime suspect.

The incident took place while the family was spending their holiday at their farm in Murshid, Fujairah. The family lives in Abu Dhabi but spend their holidays at the farm.

The Fujairah police operation room received an emergency call in the early hours of Monday, reporting the incident. Police found that the Emirati teen had killed his mother, identified as K.A.H., striking her head with an axe following an argument, Col Al Yamahi said.

Col Al Yamahi said the suspect lost his temper during a heated exchange with his mother and hit her on the head with an axe, causing her death.

The victim was transferred to the Fujairah hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival, hospital officials told Gulf News.

The suspect has been taken into police custody. The case will be transferred to the Public Prosecution once police complete their investigations, Col Al Yamahi said.

Col Al Yamahi described the incident as a “rare crime” in the UAE society.
