Fujairah: The Fujairah Appeal Court has halved the diya (blood money) and fine on a man convicted of causing the death of another motorist.

The Court of First Instances had previously fined the Arab national Dh1,000 and ordered him to pay Dh200,000 as diya, a financial compensation for causing accidental loss of life.

The victim died in November last year after his car, attempting to exit the road, was struck from behind by a car driven by the Arab national at 120km per hour.

The victim's car was then propelled by the collision against a lamp post and concrete pavement causing his death.

The accused admitted causing the death of the victim, but denied charges of driving in a reckless manner and causing damage to public property.

After his conviction in the lower court, the Appeal Court decided to fine him Dh500 and ordered him to pay Dh100,000 as diya.
