Fujairah court jails man found driving under the influence of drugs
The Fujairah Appeal Court has upheld a four-year sentence against an Emirati man convicted of consuming Hashish and driving under the influence of drugs.
Fujairah: The Fujairah Appeal Court has upheld a four-year sentence against an Emirati man convicted of consuming Hashish and driving under the influence of drugs.
The Emirati also faces similar charges relating to consuming alcohol whilst driving.
The case began when a police patrol spotted the man attempting to reverse his car, which he appeared to have driven straight into the sea on a beach near Fujairah Port.
Police questioned the suspect, who was acting in an irregular manner, and a later blood test confirmed he was intoxicated with alcohol.
Police also discovered that the suspect had a criminal record relating to drug offences and he was referred to the Fujairah Police Anti-Narcotics Department.
Another blood test revealed traces of Hashish and during interrogation the suspect admitted he acquired the drugs from another person and consumed it.
The Public Prosecution charged the man with consuming banned drugs and driving whilst under the influence of drugs.
He was convicted by the Fujairah Criminal Court on both counts and jailed for 4 years.
Drunk driver
In a separate case, the Appeal Court also jailed another motorist who was convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol.
Indian national must serve three months after he was also charged with consuming alcohol without a licence and flouting traffic laws.
The Indian was arrested after a police patrol in Al Bedya spotted him making a dangerous overtake, which could have led to a serious accident, according to a statement by the arresting officers.
A blood test at Fujairah Hospital revealed alcohol in the blood and the Indian was charged by the Public Prosecution with the aforementioned charges.
