Fujairah: The Fujairah Civil Court on Sunday ordered the insurance firm of a truck driver responsible for a horrific car accident to pay Dh1.8 million in compensation.

The firm was ordered to pay Dh1.5 million to an Emirati woman, who suffered extensive physical injuries and emotional trauma after the accident.

The injuries, the court heard, caused her lasting disabilities, which have prevented her from carrying out her duties, both at home and at work.

Her Emirati husband was awarded Dh300,000 for the emotional distress he suffered due to the accident and the legal expenses.

The traffic accident happened in 2006 on the Dibba-Towayeen road.

According to the police accident report, the couple were injured when their four-wheel vehicle collided with a heavy truck that tried an overtake maneuver without properly checking the left lane was clear.
