Dubai The Dubai Police General Anti-Narcotics Department says it helped security organisations in other countries foil four drug smuggling attempts and seize more than 13kg of drugs in the first quarter of this year.
Providing information to countries in Asia and Africa resulted in the arrest of alleged smugglers and the seizure of cocaine, heroin and crystal meth, according to a letter from the regional director of the Serious Organised Crime Agency (Soca) at the British Embassy, Roy Aflak. Aflak commended the UAE and Dubai Police's cooperation with Soca in combating narcotics.
The first operation was one of the toughest to crack. Dubai Police tipped off the Kenyan authorities about a suspect, A.G., who was arrested after arriving from Sao Paolo carrying 8kg of cocaine worth $360,000 (Dh1.3m), which he was attempting to smuggle through Nairobi airport. The drugs were hidden in four laptop monitors, police said

Another suspect, 28-year-old E.A., arrived in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire, from Sao Paolo, carrying 56 capsules after having swallowed 800 grams of cocaine, police said
An African woman, J.M.O., was travelling from Ethiopia to Brunei, when she was arrested allegedly carrying 4kg of crystal meth. The tip received from Dubai Police enabled the authorities to arrest her.
A letter of thanks from the authorities in Brunei was received, in which they thanked Dubai Police for the tip-off.
Another African woman, 21-year-old D.F., was arrested in Jomo Kenyatta Airport in the Kenyan capital based on information provided by Dubai Police.
