Dubai: A former high profile official at the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) is in custody and being investigated for alleged abuse of public office, Gulf News learnt Tuesday.
The Emirati, O.S., is being questioned for allegedly abusing his post as a public servant and committing financial irregularities amounting to about Dh50 million, a law enforcement officer told Gulf News.
"The suspect has been detained for more than three days [believed to be since Thursday]. He is being questioned over preliminary charges of abusing his public service," said the officer without revealing further details.
Dubai prosecutors refused to confirm or deny the incident.
