Couple dated since 2007, had illegal child in 2008
Dubai: A football coach at a reputable Dubai club and his girlfriend were recently jailed for one month for indulging in an out-of-wedlock sexual affair that resulted in a baby.
The Dubai Misdemeanour Court convicted the couple, the Emirati coach and his Moldovan mistress, of having an illicit affair that remained discrete since 2007 when they met in a hotel in Jumeirah.
Records said the 29-year-old Moldovan girlfriend turned herself in last month so she could return home after having accumulated a list of residency violations.
The duo will spend a month in jail each. However the woman was handed an additional month in jail for overstaying in the country illegally.
She will be deported following the completion of her punishment.
Court records said the 27-year-old football coach exchanged contacts with the woman when they met in a coffee shop at a famous hotel in Jumeirah.
They dated for a while before a love affair blossomed between the two and she moved in to the coach’s house in Al Ghusais.
Records said the couple lived together like married couple and constantly had unlawful sex before the woman conceived in 2008.
Sources close to the case told Gulf News that the couple appealed the primary judgment and are scheduled to show up before the Appeal Court on June 11.
The woman delivered a baby boy in 2009 but the hospital management didn’t issue for them a birth certificate after the unmarried lovers failed to prove they were married.
“I came for work here in 2003. I met the coach in 2007 and moved into his house. We were not married, and I gave birth to a baby boy, who turned three. When I was admitted to hospital for delivery, I provided them with a copy of my Moldovan identity and my husband’s passport copy. I couldn’t report the authorities earlier because I was afraid that they might take my child. My lover’s family is aware that we are not married. The hospital discharged me and my baby after my lover promised to get a marriage certificate later,” claimed the Moldovan.
The Emirati claimed during questioning that the hospital’s management, at first, didn’t want to provide him with a birth certificate for his son.
“When they asked me about the marriage contract, I lied and claimed to them that I lost it. Then they said that I would have to pay for the delivery. Then they asked me to revisit a public hospital, which I never did. The woman turned herself in because she wanted to return to Moldova. I was hesitant to head to the court and do a marriage contract. My partner lost her passport and that’s why she became an illegal resident,” claimed the Emirati.
