Abu Dhabi: A man accused of sexually molesting a 14-year-old boy claims that he had been tricked into confession, the Abu Dhabi Court of Appeals heard on Sunday.

A.S.’s lawyer told the court that his client was promised by police officers that he would be released if he confessed to the charges against him.

The plaintiff’s father had earlier dropped the charges.

“Aside from the boy’s testimony against my client, there is not a single piece of evidence that ties the defendant to this case. Even the boy’s father had his doubts regarding the boy’s story and therefore dropped the charges,” the defence said.

According to the lawyer, A.S.’s testimony was given under false pretences at the police station. It was later copied and given to the Public Prosecutor who did not ask the defendant to repeat his confession, the defence team claimed.

“Additionally, the boy’s story sound improbably because he alleges that my client molested him at 11am in a public place where had anybody could have seen the crime reportedly taking place and stopped it from happening,” the lawyer added.

The defendant denied the charges against him at the Public Prosecutor’s office, the Court of First Instance and at the Court of Appeals. Therefore, the lawyer asked that his client be released as he has only been married for three years and has a one year-old child. The case has been postponed until December 28.
