Ajman: The father of two infants who died after inhaling pesticide fumes told Gulf News Saturday his five-month-old triplets were not left at home unattended when their neighbour's apartment was being fumigated.

Al Hassan Ali Baker also said he was not forewarned of the pest control company's plans to carry out fumigation work at the family's home in Ajman's Al Nuaimiya area. Al Hassan's sons Ali and Suhail died en route to Ajman's Khalifa Hospital last Saturday following exposure to the deadly fumes. His daughter Hala survived the ordeal.

Gulf News reported on Thursday that Ajman Police said the triplets were home alone when the fumigation work was being carried out.

Denunciation

But in a statement released on Saturday, Al Hassan denounced the report as false. The 35-year-old financial analyst said: "Our family's life was changed forever on Saturday by the devastating loss of our baby boys Ali and Suhail. We would never leave our babies alone and we did not leave them alone as the report claims. As a family, we ensured the babies are always looked after by as many people as possible.

"The entire family, which includes the triplets, both parents, and the grandmother, were affected by the poisonous fumes. Like any family, we were always keen to provide the best care and full attention to our three babies at any cost."

Gulf News also reported on April 1 that the owner of the pest control company, his staff and the building's watchman are being held in police custody.

The article also said the case has been transferred to the public prosecutor for further investigation.

Al Hassan, originally from Palestine, said: "My kids are my life; I have been so happy with them. Ali was named after my father, who is a doctor. I was sure Ali would grow up to follow in the footsteps of his grandfather. Suhail was named after my brother; a martyr who was killed in Palestine. I have lost them both, but if that is God's will it is okay. To lose one child is hard enough, but to lose two; it has been a really tough time."
