Ras Al Khaimah: An Emirati man has been executed on charges of a double murder in Shamal area, Gulf News has learnt.

The Ras Al Khaimah Criminal Court had sentenced the 36-year-old suspect, identified as A.H.S., to death after he confessed to killing two compatriots - D.S. and H.S. - with a gun. A.H.S. surrendered to police after the murders and handed over the gun he had used to kill the two men.

According to court details of the case, A.H.S. went to the house of one of the victims and shot him dead on the spot without any conversation.

He then accosted the other victim while he was driving on the street. He asked him to come out of his car and then shot him in the head at point blank range. He then went to Al Rams police station and surrendered.

People in the neighbourhood said the two victims reportedly used to pass derogatory comments about the man's past.

No regrets

The man kept silent during the interrogation process and subsequent court hearings and refused to defend his actions.

After the man was handed the death penalty for the double murder, he refused to appeal the verdict. However, the verdict was automatically appealed by law and the court hired a lawyer to represent A.H.S.

He refused to cooperate with the lawyer and told the judges at the appeals court that he did not regret killing the two victims.

Ras Al Khaimah Police officials confirmed the man's execution by a firing squad.
