Abu Dhabi: A 68-year-old Bahraini was killed and five others were injured, including an eight-year-old girl, when their car overturned near Ghuwaifat Road, Abu Dhabi, on Thursday.

Major Ahmad Abdullah Al Shamsi, head of Traffic and Patrols Section in the Western Region, said the accident occurred due to driver fatigue.

The car skidded, hit a roadside tree and overturned. The injured were taken to Rowais Hospital for treatment.

Drivers must stop if they feel tired or sleepy, for their own safety and the safety of other road users, Al Shamsi said.

Meanwhile, Abu Dhabi Police Air Wing carried out three separate rescue operations.

A man, who suffered a back injury, was airlifted from an island near Abu Dhabi to Khalifa Hospital, while an injured person in Seih Shuwaib was taken to Al Rahba hospital.

The third patient was airlifted from Fujairah Hospital to Zayed Military Hospital in Abu Dhabi.
