Dubai: Eight people, who attempted to peddle one and a half kilogrammes of marijuana, have been arrested.
A senior official at Dubai Police's Drug Combating Department said the department had received a tip-off that some people were peddling marijuana.
Based on the tip-off, the department formed a team to follow up the information to bust the gang.
Caught in the act
The team arrested the gang members as they were wrapping the marijuana in small packets to sell. Police also seized cash generated by selling the marijuana.
Police said the gang has been referred to the Public Prosecution for further investigation.
The official said by busting this gang, Dubai Police have yet again shown they will crack down hard on gangs that sell narcotics in the country. The official said the police will not be lenient with such gangs.
These cases are lessons for anyone who attempts to use the country for peddling narcotics or promoting them, he said.
