Dubai  Dubai Police have launched an international manhunt via Interpol for three fugitives who assisted in a botched abortion which led to the bleeding death of a prostitute a month ago in a brothel in Al Rifaa, said a police official.

The wanted suspects include a plumber who conducted the abortion on the young Asia woman, police said, using a metal rod usually used to unblock sewage.

Major General Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri, Director of the Criminal Investigation Department at Dubai police (CID), said three of the suspects fled Dubai to their Asian country after causing the death of the young pregnant woman and her unborn baby.

Police did not identify which country the suspects call home but said an arrest warrant is now in the hands of Interpol for the suspects.

Major General Al Mansouri said three other suspects alleged to have been involved in the death were arrested in Dubai before they could flee.

The victim was in her early 20s.

The crime was reported to the police by a watchman of the building late last month who investigated after residents of the building, who work in the Al Rifaa area, complained of a strong odour emanating from an apartment.

Police said the victim entered the country on a visit visa, fled her sponsor, and overstayed her visit for 18 months to work as prostitute. The victim lived with an Asian gang who exploit women and force them into prostitution.

“After receiving the tip from the watchman, a CID team broke into the apartment where they found an almost decomposed body of an young Asian woman,” said Major General Al Mansouri.

Forensic investigations reported that the baby’s death was caused by suffocation as the head was stuck inside the mother while the gang members were trying to get the baby out. The forensic reports also stated that the woman was hit by sharp object in her abdomen.

It’s not known at what stage of pregnancy the woman was in.

Police also found in the victim’s room two empty bottles of medicine and injections used for miscarriage.

The coroner who examined the victim said: “Police investigations found out that this apartment is used as brothel and run by a woman who fled the country.”

Major General Al Mansouri said three of the suspects were arrested few hours after discovering the woman’s decomposed body. He said the suspects confessed to police that three others involved in the abortion and death fled the country on the day of the crime.

The woman who ran the brothel rented the Al Rifaa apartment which she used to exploit young women and force them into prostitution.

The suspects told police that the victim became pregnant from one of the customers who slept with her in return for money.

Major General Al Mansouri said the plumber tried to abort the victim using a long metal rod after he injected her with miscarriage medicine.

Police accounts suggest that after she started to bleed, she stopped breathing. At this point, the plumber pushed the baby inside the mother before he and the other gang members left the apartment and fled to their country.

Major General Al Mansouri said the body was transferred to the Department of Criminal Evidence which identified the victim.
