Dubai: Dubai Police have solved an incident of robbery by arresting the suspected robber, an Arab expatriate, and returning $100,000 (Dh367,800) to the victim within an hour of the incident, a senior police officer told Gulf News.

Colonel Abdul Rahman Obaidullah, Director of Al Muraqqabat police station, said: "The arrest of the suspect was made in less than one hour after receiving the complaint. The police could catch the man along with the money which was given back to the victim.

"At 12.30pm, Dubai Operations Room received a complaint that a man had been attacked and robbed in Deira. A police patrol rushed to the scene and started the investigation."

Hit on the head

Col Obaidullah said: "The suspect launched the attack immediately after the victim left the premises of a company in Deira, carrying a bag containing $100,000.

"The suspect hit the man on the head using a sharp object, causing him to fall on the ground, snatched the bag and ran away," he said. After police arrived, the investigation led them to the place where the suspect was hiding. Police surrounded the building and arrested the suspect.

Col Obaidullah said the suspect did not try to resist the policemen at the time of his arrest. He has been kept in police custody at Al Muraqqabat police station for further investigation. He will be referred to the prosecution later this week.

The victim, meanwhile, was rushed to hospital for treatment and was later discharged.
