Dubai: Seven suspects have been arrested and one is on the run for allegedly breaking into a company, restraining its security guard and stealing two safes containing items and cash totalling millions of dirhams.

Dh120,000 in cash, diamonds worth over Dh2.5 million, gold-plated antiques worth Dh200,000, and foreign currencies worth more than Dh100,000 were taken.

A team of recent graduates taking the criminal investigation diploma offered by Dubai Police were involved in the case as they were put to a test to evaluate their skills, said Brigadier Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri, Director of the General Department of Criminal Investigation at Dubai Police.

"This time they had to solve the crime case from A-Z without any assistance but they were continuously operating under my supervision. They really impressed me as they worked on a tough case and managed to solve it within 10 hours from the time the robbery was reported to Dubai Police," said Al Mansouri in an interview.

The alleged mastermind behind the robbery, an Indian store owner, had a couple of bounced cheque cases against him, said Lieutenant Colonel Ahmad Humaid Al Merri, Director of the criminal investigation division of Dubai Police.
