The criminal investigation department of Dubai Police managed to free a kidnapped woman within 24 hours and return her to her sister.
Dubai: The criminal investigation department of Dubai Police managed to free a kidnapped woman within 24 hours and return her to her sister.
The kidnappers had demanded Dh150,000 from the sister, identified as M.S.
M.S. had called Dubai Police's operations room last Saturday and reported that her sister had been kidnapped, as after leaving her flat in Al Nahda 2 to go to work, she had repeatedly called her but her mobile phone was constantly switched off.
When M.S. returned home at around 9pm that day, she did not find her sister and her mobile phone remained switched off. After an hour the concerned woman received a call from her sister's number, with a man saying her sister had been kidnapped and asking for a Dh150,000 ransom if she ever wanted to see her again.
The amount was to be deposited in an account number provided via a text message to her mobile. It was to be transferred to one of the countries in Eastern Europe, revealed a report from the criminal investigation unit in Dubai Police.
Following the call from M.S., the investigation and criminal unit at Dubai Police formed a team to look into the matter. The unit coordinated with M.S. to set up an ambush by arranging for a meeting point to hand over the ransom in cash. The kidnappers agreed to meet at Ajman Cornich at 6am on Sunday.
The unit succeeded in ambushing the kidnappers at the designated meeting point, where the kidnapped victim was found in the back seat of the car which the suspects used to arrive to the scene
According to Colonel Khalil Al Mansouri, Director of Dubai Police's Criminal Investigation Department (CID), the mastermind behind the kidnap was an Azerbaijani national who planned this crime to get himself out of a severe personal financial crisis.
The main suspect planned the kidnapping in coordination with a Russian national and a woman from Turkmenistan.
Police arrested the trio and referred them to the public prosecution for further investigation.
