Dubai: More than 40 people were arrested in the first quarter of this year for copying, selling and promoting pirated and indecent CDs as part of campaigns organised by Dubai Police's Department of Combating Economic Crimes.

The department raided the dens of the people who were copying, selling and promoting pirated and indecent CDs and arrested them red-handed.

Police seized more than 17,000 pirated CDs in the campaigns in addition to 1,737 indecent CDs.

All the suspects were of Asian nationalities. The suspects have been referred to the Public Prosecution for further investigation.

A police official said the Department of Combating Economic Crimes will continue its campaigns against such immoral behaviour to protect copyright and protect the society from bad moral influences, as the spread of such behaviour endanger the religious and social values of the family and the society.
