Dubai: Police have arrested a five-member gang for stealing jewellery worth Dh6 million in Dubai the night before Eid Al Fitr.

Major General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina, Acting Dubai Chief of Police, said that an operation conducted by Dubai Police dubbed Eidiya (Eid Gift) discovered through an investigation that the main reason behind the theft was negligence and carelessness by the owner of the gold.

The victim of the theft, Maj Gen Al Mazeina said, as it turned out left a huge quantity of jewellery in his car in the City Centre parking lot “which shows his carelessness,” Maj Gen Al Mazeina said.

The suspects, meanwhile, were taken into custody.

Three men and two women were arrested in connection with the theft, he said.
