Dubai: The Dubai Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested R.J., an Indian worker, who stole over Dh1.5 million worth of jewellery from an Indian national residing in Bur Dubai.
The resident, S.K., had hired him to clean her house twice a day for a monthly salary of Dh1,000. In his first week, the culprit stole the resident's purse, which also contained the key to a safe she kept her jewellery in.
S.K. reported him to the police the same night after she confirmed her jewellery was stolen. The CID assigned a police investigation team to arrest the thief in a massive search operation. R.J. was arrested at one of the supermarkets in Al Quoz area less than 24 hours later and the jewellery recovered.
The CID warned Dubai residents of such thefts and cautioned them against employing unknown workers who are not on their sponsorship and those who do not reveal their identity or permanent address.
