Dubai Customs have seized 170kg of cocaine at Jebel Ali Port, after it was found hidden within a shipment of fresh bananas. The cocaine, worth Dhs200 million, came from Latin America and reached Dubai after transiting through Europe. “The shipment weighed a total of 45 tonnes,” Ahmed Al Kharousi, Director of the Customs Intelligence Department, “customs officers became suspicious and inspected the shipment further. This was one of the biggest drug busts we’ve had in the last five years. A large quantity of a very dangerous narcotic such as this would have definitely harmed the safety and security of our residents.
