Dubai: A court has dismissed a drug case against a member of the Qatari royal family because the crime fell outside its jurisdiction.
The Dubai Court of First Instance dismissed the case against the 45-year-old Qatari shaikh who earlier denied consuming hashish during his two-day visit to Dubai. The suspect earlier told the court that he "just came to spend 24 hours in the emirate."
He was charged with consuming tetra-hydro cannabinol (THC), an active component of hashish which was found in his urine.
An anti-narcotics first corporal in Dubai police told the public prosecution: "An informant reported to Dubai Police's Anti-Narcotics Department that the suspect was consuming drugs in the Al Muraqqabat area."
Medical reports confirmed the suspect's urine contained traces of hashish.
The suspect arrived at Dubai International Airport on December 14 and was detained in the early morning of December 16.
