Dubai: Dubai Police have launched a campaign during Ramadan aimed at enhancing safety of bank customers. The police urged customers to take simple precautions that will help them avoid the attention of criminals while withdrawing cash from banks or ATM machines.

According to a Dubai Police statement, there is a need to raise public awareness on security and safety issues while transporting money and handling cash, especially while leaving banks or ATM machines.

Police said that most incidents of robbing of bank customers happened because they put themselves at danger by ignoring simple precautions despite the fact that the police have urged the public time and again to be more alert when leaving a bank with money as some gangs target bank clients.

The police urged people never to share their bank codes with anyone, not even their friends, and never carry large amounts of cash with them. Bank customers are also advised not to leave bags or envelopes containing money in places where criminals can easily spot them, such as inside their cars.

Police said that people should also be alert before and after withdrawing money and to report to police any suspicious activity or person. Police urge the public not to walk alone in deserted areas, especially at night, and after withdrawing money from ATMs or from the bank.

Police urged the public to call the police if they come across any suspicious activity while visiting banks or in the area of ATMs, or if they feel that they are being followed by someone.
