Large amount of heroin was found in suspect’s apartment
Dubai: A man has been arrested for selling heroin in Dubai, police confirmed on Sunday.
A senior police official said an Asian drug dealer was arrested by anti-narcotics police.
Major General Abdul Jalil Mahdi Al Asmawi, director of the anti-narcotics department at Dubai Police, said a 30-year-old man, identified as W.A.M., a mechanic, was arrested in his Naif apartment on May 10 for smuggling, selling and taking drugs.
Major General Al Asmawi said the suspect was arrested after police received a tip-off that W.A.M. was smuggling and dealing drugs and was in possession of a large amount of heroin.
He said the team investigating the case was able to arrest the suspect in the act.
“The suspect was arrested after he weighed 2.032kg of heroin in preparation to be delivered to the buyers.”
He said that police found a similar amount of heroin in the suspect’s room. The defendant admitted to committing the offences.
He told police he sold drugs in Dubai after smuggling them from his home country.
He has been referred to the public prosecutor. “Society also has full responsibility towards the country and the community and the public should cooperate with police by informing police if they come across or learn about anyone who is selling or attempting to sell, smuggle or even take drugs,” said Major General Al Asmawi.
